The Outbound Sponsored Programs team is happy to announce that the 2021-22 program applications for Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX), the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y), and YES Abroad are now available online!
Please join us in spreading the news about these programs of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. All programs are merit-based full scholarships for eligible high school students and recent graduates!
The CBYX program provides scholarships for eligible American high school students and recent graduates to spend an academic year of study and cultural immersion in Germany. Scholarship recipients will gain a new perspective on global current affairs and German social, economic, and political life, all while learning the German language through day-to-day life in the culture, attending a local high school and living with a host family. Participants serve as “youth ambassadors” from the United States while participating in educational, cultural, and political events, including receptions and meetings with government officials. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2020 at 11:59PM PST. More information can be found at www.USAGermanyScholarship.org. Contact Jon and Jess, AFS-USA CBYX program staff, at CBYX@afsusa.org.
The YES Abroad program provides scholarships for eligible American high school students and recent graduates to live with host families and attend a local high school for one academic year in countries that may include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Jordan, North Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, the Philippines, Senegal, Thailand, and Turkey. As YES Abroad scholars, students promote mutual understanding between the U.S. and the host country by forming lasting relationships with the local community. The deadline to apply is December 8, 2020 at 5:00 PM EST. More information can be found at www.yes-abroad.org. Contact Heather and Nicolas, AFS-USA YES Abroad program staff, at YESAbroad@afsusa.org.
The NSLI-Y program provides scholarships for eligible American high school students and recent graduates to learn critical languages in summer and academic-year overseas programs. The program immerses participants in the cultural life of the host community, giving them formal and informal language practice and sparking a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures. Summer and academic year programs are available for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian, and Turkish. The deadline to apply is November 5, 2020 at 4:00 pm ET. More information can be found at www.nsliforyouth.org. Contact Hannah and Melissa, AFS-USA NSLI-Y program staff, at NSLIforYouth@afsusa.org.
