AFS to Join LGBTQ+ Pride March in NYC

AFS to Join LGBTQ+ Pride March in NYC

Dear AFS Volunteers,

This June, New York City will host WorldPride and commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a watershed moment for the LGBTQ+ rights movement. We are proud to announce that AFS-USA will join the Pride March on June 30th!

“When AFS-USA launched its five-year strategic plan in 2012, inherent in that plan was our ongoing commitment to ensure that we—all of us—create and promote a culture of diversity and inclusion as a cornerstone of all that we do,” said Tara Hofmann, President and CEO of AFS-USA. “Thanks to the efforts of many staff and volunteers, this June AFS-USA will participate in what is the largest LGBTQ+ march in the world.”

Here’s how you can get involved with Pride this June and beyond:

  • Join the NYC Pride March! If you are interested in proudly marching with us and meeting like-minded AFSers in NYC on June 29-30, please fill out this form. All volunteers are welcome. Please note that those under the age of 18 are welcome to join, but they will need to provide permission from their guardian or parent to participate.
  • Pride T-shirts! T-Shirts we have designed will be available to order very soon. All marchers will get one free to wear. Show #PrideAcrossCultures!
  • Join the Facebook Group! Connect with our community and those marching in NYC.
  • Help us Fundraise for Inclusion! Support diversity initiatives like our Pride Scholarship.

Equality and acceptance are essential to our mission. Please join us and add your support to our LGBTQ+ community. Come and walk side-by-side with us in June!

If you have any questions, please email us at LGBTQexchange@afsusa.org.

Sincerely,

Melvin Harmon
