Since I wrote to you last week, the situation at hand with the COVID-19/coronavirus has continuously been changing, oftentimes by the hour. Over the last two weeks, we’ve endeavored to provide relevant information, from an AFS-USA perspective, to host families, sending parents, schools, and volunteers.

After much thought and reflection, our Chief Financial Officer, Susan Goldberg, has decided that she is ready to retire. Meanwhile, I am very pleased to announce that Michelle Pinedo has joined AFS-USA in the role of Chief Financial Officer.
One year has passed since I became the President of AFS-USA! In that time, much has happened, from exciting accomplishments and opportunities to persistent organizational challenges.
On this International Volunteer Day, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for AFS-USA.
Under the direction of Tara Hofmann, AFS-USA President and CEO, a new path to a more dynamic and successful organization is being announced today. This will be the most significant change at AFS-USA since the current TDS model was launched in 2010.
I’m very pleased to share AFS-USA’s Strategic Plan 2.0 with you. This plan came together through the efforts of a diverse group of AFS-USA volunteers, staff, board members, and external consultants.
Your efforts to find family and school placements for AFS Exchange Students have been truly outstanding.
