We are gearing up for the NSLI-Y and YES Abroad interview season! This is an exciting volunteer opportunity to complete interviews for NSLI-Y and YES Abroad, two programs of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Every year, your hard work and dedication ensures the completion of over 1,500 interviews across the U.S. and overseas. This is a huge accomplishment, and we would not be able to do it without the dedication of our incredible staff, volunteers, and program alumni! As we prepare for the start of a new interview season, we’d like to share the following with you:
- Interview Season Timeline
- Important Resources
Interview Season Timeline
AFS volunteers will contribute to the selection process of scholarship recipients by interviewing candidates in their respective areas. This interview season will begin December 9th and all interviews should be completed and forms submitted by January 31st.
We expect NSLI-Y candidates to be available in Global Link in mid-December, and YES Abroad students to follow shortly thereafter. Data may be available in Excel format as early as December 9, so if your team is planning an interview event in early December, or if you would like a projection on how many students will be in your area, please let us know and we can help collect candidate information from Excel.
Important Resources
The NSLI-Y and YES Abroad Interviews page on MyAFS Help & Learning is a valuable resource to help AFS staff and volunteers organize and conduct NSLI-Y and YES Abroad interviews. All interview materials for the upcoming season, including the interview form and interview training webinar, will be updated and uploaded to MyAFS by December 4th. While several webinars will be provided, the Interview Form Training Webinar will be the only required webinar for all volunteers involved in the season.
If you know a volunteer who would like to receive interview season email updates, please email us at nsliyinterviews@afsusa.org to request to be added to our distribution list.
We are looking forward to working with you during this NSLI-Y and YES Abroad interview season and we appreciate all your hard work! Should you have any questions, please email us at nsliyinterviews@afsusa.org.
With our best,
Hannah Stewart
