Diversity Initiatives and Scholarships Updates

New Scholarship Available

The Study Abroad Experience and Operations Team is happy to announce a new scholarship available for the Fall/Summer 2020/21 program valued at 50% of the program fee towards a semester or year program. The scholarship will be available on Thursday, November 15th!

The Keith A. Voigt Study Abroad Scholarship has been established to honor the life and legacy of Keith Arthur Voigt, an AFS Returnee from Ohio who studied abroad in Bogota, Colombia in 1975-1976.

Scholarship Type: Merit and Need-based

Scholarship Value: $8,000

Available Scholarships: One (1) award

Applicable Programs:  All Semester and Year High School programs (Departing between June-September)

Application Deadline: February 13, 2020

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Video entry submission
  • Qualify for financial assistance*

*Families who qualify typically have household incomes of $85,000 or less, though some extenuating circumstances can be considered. Applicants/Families are required to submit financial documentation for scholarship consideration via the FAST Application.

If awarded, the Keith A. Voigt scholarship cannot be combined with the Global Leaders Need-based Scholarship but is eligible to be combined with other national merit and local area team scholarships.

Staff Update:

For more than two years, Amy Kiana Rendon-Patel has served as the Senior Scholarship Specialist to support the scholarship operations and support fellow Staff, Volunteers, Students, and family. Amy recently accepted a new position as the Senior Hosting Operations Manager with the Hosting Operations Department, returning to the department where she originally began her career at AFS-USA.
