Increase in Hosted Student Medical Insurance Coverage

Increase in Hosted Student Medical Insurance Coverage

Effective beginning SH20 and beyond, the per incident medical coverage limit for students hosted in the USA will increase from $1 million to $1.5 million.

AFS International has implemented a system whereby hosting partners may choose one of three levels of medical coverage to minimize costs to the AFS network while ensuring adequate coverage for all participants. (The coverage limit for NH19 hosted participants remains at $1 million.) All other partners have opted for the $500,000 level of coverage for their hosted students, except for France, Germany, Italy, Paraguay and Thailand who will have $1 million coverage.

This update has been made in related Hosting and Sending materials, the participation agreement, etc.  and we wanted to make sure that staff and volunteers are aware of this change in case you may reference our medical coverage limits in your conversations with host and natural parents and/or school staff.
