AFS-USA Board seeks individuals with strong professional and volunteer experience – apply by February 14!

The AFS-USA Board of Directors is working to identify potential new directors for 3-year terms, starting in July 2025, who can provide strategic leadership to help the organization accomplish its priority goals.

AFS-USA Board members provide oversight, insight, and foresight with a focus on strategic issues as they relate to the business environment in which AFS-USA operates. The Board has a fiduciary responsibility to ensure the organization is running in both financial and programmatic compliance. The Board makes decisions and recommendations that are intended to preserve the fiscal stability and health of our organization, to provide direction and guidance on current and future organizational priorities, and to ensure that the programs of AFS-USA are guided by the AFS mission.

Please take a few minutes to watch this video from a recent Board Member and long-time AFS volunteer leader, Jim Walker, to better understand the priorities and role of the AFS-USA Board.

We’re reaching out to the AFS-USA volunteer network because we know there are current AFS volunteers with both the desired professional experience AND the added value of holding the perspective of an AFS-USA volunteer.

Board members bring an array of professional expertise, such as finance, board governance, technology, organizational management/development, secondary school education, global education and legal experience among others.

If you are interested, please submit the Board Interest Form by February 14, 2025, for consideration in the current election cycle. Candidates will be contacted about next steps by early March.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to AFS! We hope you will consider lending your talents and expertise to the AFS-USA Board.

Sincerely,

Jim Walker, chair, AFS-USA National Council Nominations & Selection Committee, former AFS-USA Board Member

Kelly McFarland Stratman, chair, AFS-USA Board Nominations & Governance Committee
