The National Council continues to develop and establish itself as a volunteer and staff partnership committed to infusing the voice of the volunteers into program and policy implementation. In addition to a Steering Committee, comprised of seven core positions, the National Council has been expanded to include a representative from each of the advisory and workgroups that exist for the purpose of improving policies and procedures across the various programs and roles. Under the leadership of the Steering Committee, the National Council will work to ensure a high level of coordination among the different advisory and workgroups, including forming and/or retiring groups as appropriate to maintain focus on organizational priorities.
The National Council’s responsibilities also include setting the agenda for the annual volunteer Summit. For 2019, there is an important date change – the Summit will take place in the fall (instead of the spring) to better align with the flow of program and organizational work.

The National Council represents all volunteers at the National Level and is proud of the work we do to promote the AFS Mission of working toward a more just and peaceful world through international and intercultural learning experiences.
