There have been changes to the English language assessment test that our students use. In recent years, AFS students’ English language abilities have been assessed through the ELTiS test yielding a score between 100 and 300, with 300 being the best. We would like to introduce you to the ELTiS 2.0, an upgraded version of the original ELTiS. ELTiS 2.0 scores range from 500-800, with 800 being the best. When looking at a student’s score in MyAFS or Global Link, you will start to see these new scores for some students.
Both ELTiS 1.0 and ELTiS 2.0 use a proficiency scale ranging from a low 1 to a high 5 where Level 1 indicates very little ability to understand spoke or written English and Levels 4 and 5 mean students are able to understand high school level instruction in English. AFS accepts Level 4 and Level 5 students – that is students with a minimum score of 212 (ELTiS 1.0) or 670 (ELTiS 2.0). We make some exceptions for Sponsored Programs students for whom we can also offer additional tutoring.
For the 2020-2021 school year, you will see scores from both versions of the ELTiS test; most students will have ElTiS 1.0 scores, but a few students will have the ELTiS 2.0. For more information on ELTiS 2.0, please head on over to the ELTiS website by clicking here (where you can even take a practice test yourself!) or for more details about the proficiency scales visit Help & Learning.
