Help & Learning for Hosted Participants is an online resource accessible on a computer or smartphone that replaces Welcome to the USA and Safety Tips handbooks. AFS-USA has shared this resource with AFS partners to share with participants, who will be hosted in the United States, so they can start reviewing information and preparing for their experience. Students can access all the information they will need before and during their program on many important topics including:
- preparing for your AFS experience
- travelling to the U.S.
- important safety and support information
- living with an American host family
- attending school in the U.S.
Inbound students and their parents/guardians are being encouraged to read all sections of Help & Learning before departure and participants will have access to this important resource throughout their AFS-USA program.
We hope this will provide an additional layer of support for volunteers when talking to students and answering questions. All volunteers who work with hosted students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the articles and resources available in Help and Learning for Hosted Participants so you can direct students there, when they have questions.
As a reminder Host Families have their own Help and Learning resource, Help & Learning for Host Families to support their experience.
Volunteers can read more about Help & Learning for Hosted Participants in this article and will be able to find quick links to both Help and Learning for Host Families and Help & Learning for Hosted Participants on the home page of Help and Learning for Volunteers underneath the blue category buttons.
