Mark your calendar for this year’s AFS-USA Summit! The 2024 event will be held in Dallas, Texas from November 1-3.
The theme of this year’s summit was “Volunteer Engagement,” and the event’s panels, presentations and sessions focused on ways for Volunteer Engagement Coordinators and other Area Team leaders to effectively recruit, engage, and retain volunteers.
In the first article on the Support & Learning Advisory Group, we focused on their role, support tools, and training. This article will first address mental health, how to determine when a participant needs help, and secondly, our own self-care.
The AFS-USA Volunteer Recognition Awards are designed to recognize the many and varied contributions by its volunteers.
The National Council created the Volunteer Recognition Committee to ensure a group of dedicated volunteers and staff work toward recognition and appreciation consistently throughout the years.
The Volunteer Engagement Advisory Group works to support our teams and chapters in creating positive and meaningful experiences for all volunteers in AFS-USA.
The Sponsored Programs Advisory Group (SPAG), according to its page in Help & Learning, “provides input and guidance to the Sponsored Programs (SP) Department, [promotes] Sponsored Programs priorities throughout the AFS community, and serves as a resource to the volunteer network furthering the AFS staff and volunteer partnership.”
Each issue of “My AFS News” will include this column, “The Voice of the Chair.” This feature is an opportunity for Jim Walker, Chair of the National Council (NC) and NC Vice Chair Ann Sweet, to help AFS volunteers understand more about the NC and its crucial role in the organization.
