Congratulations to Carol and John Baldo, along with their son Matthew and daughter Hilary, on receiving the prestigious Peggy and Art Howe Award, one of the highest honors bestowed by the global AFS organization!
Established in 2016, the Peggy and Art Howe Award honors the outstanding service of AFS volunteer families. This award is inspired by the Howe family, who volunteered for AFS for more than six decades. Art Howe was a volunteer AFS Ambulance Driver in World War II, President of AFS (1965-1971), and Life Trustee until his passing in 2014.
The Baldo family’s AFS involvement began in 1963 when John participated as an exchange student in Norway. Since 2001, they have hosted over 15 students from 14 countries and volunteered extensively with the Colorado Rockies Area Team, including leadership roles and mentoring new volunteers. Carol and John have also supported AFS-USA hosting efforts, served as liaisons, and organized student and host family orientations. John also crafts mementos for students and families each year.
“The Baldo family’s dedication to AFS and the Colorado community is unmatched,” said Tara Hofmann, AFS-USA President and CEO.” Their leadership, teamwork, and mentorship have fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment, celebrating diverse perspectives and values.”
