In April, we announced that the 2019 AFS Summit will be held during the weekend of November 15-17, 2019, in Bloomington, MN (suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul). The 2019 Summit will take place at the Radisson Blu – Mall of America.
We are currently accepting applications from volunteers and staff who are interested in planning and facilitating a session at this year’s Summit. Session proposals should align with the expected outcomes of the Summit (see below for the outcomes), especially as it relates to outreach to educators and to schools.
If you or another volunteer in your team has a great approach to working with schools as they work to increase global competency or if they have been successful in working with schools to help them value and understand the many benefits of hosting exchange students, please consider submitting a proposal or encouraging your fellow volunteers to do so! Bring your global competency “best practices” to the table so that we can learn how we can work in greater partnership with the schools that host and send our students. Click here to submit your proposal today.
The selection of sessions for the Summit will be prioritized based on how they align with the following outcomes for this year’s Summit:
- AFS-USA’s Strategic Plan 2.0 will be shared with participants, ensuring volunteers leave the Summit with a strong understanding of the 2019-20 priorities and the resources to communicate the goals and actions steps to their respective teams.
- Strategic Plan 2.0 emphasizes re-setting and strengthening relationships with our educational communities. Volunteer participants will learn best practices from their peers and leave the Summit able to use the new tools and resources in their teams.
- Volunteer participants will leave the Summit with a running start in developing their team plans for educational outreach, to be completed in early 2020.
- Volunteer participants will leave the Summit recharged from renewed relationships with volunteers from across the country, having had the opportunity to share best practices and articulate common purpose and priority.
Feel free to contact Scott Hume at shume@afsusa.org with any questions about the submissions process or about the Summit in general.
