Classroom participation, group work, making friends, handling conflict and more are all aspects of high school that AFS students may not fully grasp when they arrive in the U.S. due in part to cultural differences. Likewise, their teachers may not realize that differences in these areas exist.
Each of these Cultural Considerations in the Classroom handouts are designed to help bridge this gap by defining a specific intercultural concept and describing the impact it may have on students’ behavior in the classroom. Each handout also connects to a related classroom activity which teachers can implement to help all students learn and grow in their intercultural understanding together!
ALL volunteers are encouraged to read them and share them with educators far and wide!
