ICL Department Releases New “Additional Activities Booklet”

ICL Department Releases New “Additional Activities Booklet”

The ICL Dept. is pleased to announce the release of the “Additional Activities Booklet”. The booklet was created based on the feedback and suggestions of many Volunteers and Area Teams. It is a completely optional resource for Area Teams that are looking for additional activities to do with Participants, Host Parents and/or Host Siblings at Orientations or other events. Please feel free to adapt any/all activities to meet the needs and resources of your Area Team.

For volunteers, the booklet is available to download on MyAFS. For staff, the booklet is also available to download on the “Documents” page of the ICL Dept. on AFSConnect.

The booklet is divided into sections pertaining to each audience (i.e. Participants, Host Parents, Host Siblings). There is also a comprehensive list of suggested video resources (i.e. TED Talks), which may be of interest to share and discuss with the various audiences as well. Each section lists the various activities and the Orientations to which they apply.

The booklet was intentionally created as a B&W document, with color used only when necessary, in order for it to be economical and simple to print. A “Branded” version (i.e. color cover pages) is also available.

When using the booklet, it is recommended to review the activity in advance. Please note that a few of the pages of activities are best viewed and/or printed in color (p. 31 & 33, p. 38, p. 60, p. 71 & 84).  Just a reminder that using and/or printing the booklet is completely optional.

This booklet is a “live document”, which means that we will add new activities and update it as they are submitted and reviewed. Therefore, the ICL Dept. welcomes any/all ideas and submissions of activities and ideas from Volunteers and Educators for inclusion in future editions of this booklet.

If you have any questions about the booklet or specific activities or would like to submit any ideas/suggestions for activities to add, please feel free to contact the ICL Dept. (ekawasaki@afsusa.org) at any time.
