Message Sent to Sending Parents Re: Monitoring the Situation in Ukraine

Dear AFS Volunteers,

The news today has been difficult to watch and all of us involved with AFS hope to see peace restored through non-violent means.

The message below was sent today to the parents/guardians of all US students currently hosted in Europe.

Dear Parent/Guardian of an AFS student in Europe,

Today’s news has been of deep concern to all of us and we hope that the situation will be resolved quickly and peacefully.

AFS-USA is monitoring the situation closely and working in tandem with our European partners to understand any impacts the current activities of Russian forces in Ukraine might have throughout Europe. We have not made any programmatic or repatriation decisions but, in the meantime, we are in communication with our colleagues in all European countries for insight into additional support and/or guidance they will be providing to our students. AFS-USA staff will keep you posted on what our European colleagues share with us.

The safety of our participants is always at the forefront of what we do and we are working diligently with our European partners on gauging any impacts on the safety of our students and, in turn, responding to their (and the US embassy’s) recommendations.

With warmest regards,

Tara M. Hofmann
