NEW: AFSNext programs in Denmark!

Denmark has a reputation of being one of the most friendly and welcoming countries in the world, as well as one of the best countries to live, work, and study in. AFSNext is now offering you the chance to experience that first hand, with two uniquely different programs!

Danish Folk College

The Folk College has been a important part of Denmark’s education system for over 100 years. As a “School of Life,” students in Denmark are encouraged to attend a Folk College for at least one year in between high school and University, as a way to explore interests before committing to a specific degree and career path. At the Danish Folk College, students have the opportunity to select a series of classes in elective subjects that are of interest to the individual. There are no grades, no exams, no academic pressure or expectation whatsoever! It’s simply a place for you to explore! After your time at Folk College, you’ll have a better idea of what it is you want to focus on when you get to University.

On the program page above you will find a list of 6 Folk Colleges that AFSNext partners with, and each has a different focus. Whether you’re interested in the arts, theater, sports, global citizenship, or sustainability, there’s a folk college for you! So take charge of your education. Spend a year or semester learning what you want to learn, while living with international students from around the world who will help you expand your knowledge of the world. Plus, you’ll get to live in one of the most reputable countries in the world while you do it.

Best for participants between the ages of 18 and 29.

Teach in Denmark

Are you a teacher? Are you thinking about becoming a teacher? Our Teach in Denmark program is the perfect place for you to learn and grow your skills as an educator. Danish higher education features innovative teaching methods and an informal learning environment designed to promote creativity, self-expression, analytical, and critical thinking. As a volunteer teacher, you’ll get to practice your teaching abilities, gain experience working in a new school environment, and familiarize yourself with the 5-19 age group.

Whether you have 12 weeks or a whole year to spare, the AFSNext Teach in Denmark program will work with you to identify your interests as an educator, and place you in a school where you can get the most out of your program. You’ll live with a Danish host family, which is a great opportunity to experience culture and language immersion. Every participant will have a mentor at your school placement, and an AFS contact person who will help you integrate into the community.

There are no formal educational requirements to participate on this program. The only need is that you are proficient in English! We’ll work with you to figure out the rest.

Best for participants between the ages of 18 and 29.
