NH21 Distribution and Placement Start/End Dates

NH21 Distribution and Placement Start/End Dates

As we look ahead toward NH21, many of you will have noted that the first NH21 participants have already distributed, which is exciting! Distribution of NH21 participants will continue as applications are transferred from sending partners and reviewed for completion.

Please note that NH20 rollover applicants who were previously placed on NH20 are being assigned directly to the area team where they were placed so the area team can enter a PWP request to relink the host family and host school (accepting after confirming both are still on board to host for NH21 of course). Applicants who are new for NH21 or who are rolling over from NH20 but who did not have a placement are being distributed as Regionally Available equitably across the six regions (e.g., Northeast Area Team Region).

As placements are identified (or reconfirmed from NH20) for our NH21 participants, placement state/end dates will need to be entered.

For the start date, the answer is straightforward:

  • Start Date for our first arrival participants will be:
    • August 11, 2021

For the end date, some of your will recall that AFS-USA is now facilitating a range of three departure dates in order to allow participants to return to their home country within two weeks after the completion of their school program (close of host school). This means that the end date will depend on the estimated school end date.

Therefore, when entering a placement (PWP request), please consult the school’s 2021-22 calendar (if available) and enter the departure date from the below 3 date options that is the first available date after school close. If the school’s 2021-22 calendar is not yet available, please consult this year’s calendar (2020-21) and estimate the school end date (most school’s closing dates do not shift significantly from year to year).

  • Year Program End Date
    • June 1, 2022
    • June 20, 2022
    • June 27, 2022
  • Semester Program End Date
    • January 13, 2022 (all participants)

Thank you all for your resilient efforts – and we’re looking forward to a successful NH21 placement season!
