Chinese NSLI-Y AY participants continued their orientation week with a cultural activity focused on Chinese music and the traditional instrument Guzheng (pictured below). The speaker and musician, Closer, presented about the relationship of music to culture and how her experience with traditional instruments tells so much about Chinese regional culture. She shared different styles of Chinese music, through ancient and modern times. Participants were able to ask questions in Chinese or English about the history of the Guzheng and regional nuances of musical styles. To hear Closer and her group check out this link.
