Openness to non-traditional placements is important when it comes to finding the right student(s) for a single parent or same-sex family as well as a family who wants to host two students, but how do you know if a student is open to such a placement? You can find out by searching for Non-Traditional Placement Preferences!
During the initial student application review process, our Hosting Operations team requests students’ preferences about non-traditional placements (Single Parent, Double Placement, and Same-Sex). Searchable tags of the student/natural parent preferences are added to each student profile once received. This process helps to save time, minimize placement rejections, and improve our customer service while complying with the Department of State regulations.

While we do not learn of the preferences of every participant, a great way to start your search is using the “About Students” filter in the MyAFS Placements widget and looking for the “Placement Info Section” as shown here:
