Pathfinder: NextGen Careers Wraps Up Our First Domestic Pilot Program!

Our first domestic pilot program of the summer has officially wrapped up! 🎉

Students from across the U.S. traveled to Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for Pathfinder: NextGen Careers, a one-week immersive experience designed to help young people explore future career pathways while building the AFS Power Skills that prepare them for an interconnected world.

Throughout the week, participants explored emerging technologies through hands-on experiences, including cybersecurity simulations, robotics, extended reality (XR), and Indigenous language preservation through STEM. They also participated in career-readiness workshops focused on résumé writing, interviewing, and elevator pitches.

Outside the classroom, students connected with one another while exploring the local community through visits to the Cincinnati Zoo, the Uptown Oxford Farmers Market, and the American Sign Museum.

One participant, Alex, shared:

“My perspective on my possible career has shifted… now I might look more into biomedical-related fields.”

Pathfinder is just one of three domestic pilot programs taking place this summer as AFS-USA expands opportunities for intercultural learning here in the United States.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Pathfinder: NextGen Careers a success, including our staff, facilitators, and volunteers who supported this exciting new initiative.
