Sharing Carrie Brown-Wolf’s 75th Anniversary Story

“The summer of 1983 changed my life. I left the Midwest and traveled to Tunisia, a place almost no one in my high school could locate. Spending the summer with the Rokbani family opened me to a beautiful cultural experience. I learned about Tunisia, Islam, politics, and so much more. I did not return home the same person. I’d grown immeasurably. Since then, I’ve dedicated my life to cross-cultural education, writing, and teaching. Not only have I returned to Tunisia multiple times, but I’ve brought my parents, my husband and our three children – changing their lives as well. Sonia will forever be my sister.” – Carrie Brown-Wolf, an AFS-USA alumna and volunteer, who has since sent her own child abroad with AFS-USA.

Becoming a part of our community is not a finite experience; AFSers have stayed connected across decades and borders for 75 years. Read more #AFS75 stories and tell us your own story on our 75th-anniversary webpage at afsusa.org/75-years.
