Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) is a merit-based scholarship for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to immerse themselves in German culture. CBYX participants fully experience German culture by living with a host family, attending a German high school, and learning the language. Deadline to apply is December 12, 2017 at 11:59pm PT. National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is a merit-based scholarship for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in overseas programs. NSLI-Y immerses participants in the cultural life of their host country, giving them invaluable formal and informal language practice and sparking a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures. Summer and academic year programs are available for Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, Korean, Persian (Tajiki), Russian and Turkish. Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Abroad (YES Abroad) is a merit-based scholarship for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates promoting cross-cultural awareness by sending American students to live in countries with significant Muslim populations. YES Abroad encourages mutual understanding between American participants and their host countries by placing students with host families and enrolling them in local schools.
