Updates to the NSLI-Y Program

Please read for important changes regarding AFS implementation of the NSLI-Y program.

Beginning with the 2026-27 program, the NSLI-Y program’s offerings have been reduced. With the application launch, you will note that AFS is no longer listed as a partner in the NSLI-Y program. While the NSLI-Y program’s commitment to immersive cultural exchange and focused language learning remains, several languages and/or host countries are no longer offered by the program, including those traditionally implemented by AFS –the Indonesian, Turkish, and Hindi languages, as well as program sites in China and Russia. These changes to the NSLI-Y program mark the conclusion of our organization’s implementation of NSLI-Y, including our work on the annual interview season. Current NSLI-Y offerings are detailed on the program’s website, here: www.nsliforyouth.org.

The contributions by AFS stakeholders to the NSLI-Y program over the last two decades cannot be understated –hundreds of AFS staff, volunteers, host families, language instructors, and others in the U.S. and around the world made these programs possible and AFS is proud to have been among the founding organizations of this incredibly impactful program.
