As our hosted students begin settling into life in their U.S. communities, we’re encouraging them to take an active role in sharing their experiences and representing AFS. We recently sent the message below to students with a few ways they can get involved—from sharing their culture and creating social media content to helping us connect with potential host families. We wanted to make sure volunteers are in the loop, too!

Greetings from AFS-USA!
We hope your first days in the U.S. have been full of excitement, fun adventures, and new connections.
As part of your role representing AFS in your community, here are some first steps we encourage you to take…
- Order your AFS-USA T-shirt, which we’ll send you for free. Wearing this t-shirt to school and around your host community can help you promote intercultural exchange!
- Do you enjoy sharing your exchange experience and creating content for social media? Become an AFS-USA Social Media Ambassador by doing an Instagram takeover, making exchange-themed posts/videos, and more!
- Use this presentation template for hosted students to share your culture within your community and practice presenting for Global Learning Week, which takes place later this year.
- Follow us on social media (@afs_usa) and tag us in your content as you embark on your exchange experience. You can also use this form to send us your photos/videos!
If you meet any great families in your host community, we also encourage you to send us their information so we can reach out about opportunities for them to host an exchange student.
