World Teachers’ Day is Thursday, October 5th!

World Teachers’ Day is a worldwide event launched by UNESCO in 1994 to celebrate teachers, recognize their achievements, and admire their dedication to inspiring young minds! Educators play an incredibly important role in our AFS community – whether it’s facilitating intercultural learning in their classrooms, spearheading clubs at school, or making exchange students feel welcome in the community, teachers are an essential part of the exchange experience.

Will you help AFS-USA recognize educators and schools this week? Here are a few ideas of how you can thank the teachers in your community:

  1. Send a kind thank you note to a teacher that is showing real support to a hosted student. Include a small gift, like an AFS key chain or package of treats with an AFS sticker on them.
  2. Send a thank you note to a teacher who supported a student in going abroad.
  3. Nominate an educator for the 2024 AFS-USA Global Educator Award.
  4. Send a note to the principal of a teacher that is going above and beyond.
  5. Send a French teacher this new scholarship information so they can nominate up to 3 students to go abroad with a $7,500 scholarship!
  6. Send the FREE virtual exchange opportunity to a Spanish teacher when you say “gracias” for all that they do for our students!
  7. Send the international club sponsor the AFS Intercultural Club Toolkit that will save them hours of planning.
  8. Any other ideas to show appreciation to a “global teacher”? Please share them with us at educators@afsusa.org!

We also encourage you to re-share the World Teachers’ Day posts you’ll see on AFS-USA social media this week. Use the hashtag #AFSWorldTeachers in your own posts and we will re-share – thank you for helping us appreciate teachers!
