You’re never too old to be an AFSer

You’re never too old to be an AFSer

We say that AFSNext offers opportunities for travelers 18 and up, and we really mean it. This winter, Claire (53), Paul (49), and Deb (54) were in the the mood to try something new. So, they jetted off to Morocco for two weeks of volunteering with AFSNext. They’ve been home for about a month now, and they only have positive things to say about their experiences.

“Personally, it was like nothing I had ever encountered before,” wrote Claire. “Working with the residents at Lalla Meryam was incredible (I choke up when I think about them). The cultural immersion was amazing, and the excursions we took were so very enlightening and different.”

Deb shared that “volunteering with patients and nurses gave me a way to integrate into the everyday work routine in Rabat.” They went to the Sahara, rode camels, visited market places, attended musical performances, and learned to make Moroccan mint tea with their program coordinator. Through their volunteer work, they got to witness first hand the changing culture in Morocco, especially the new lifestyles for girls and women.

Jill (55), traveled with AFSNext to South Africa last summer, and she also raved about her experience. “Nearly 40 years ago, I met exchange students for the first time through the AFS club in high school. This past summer, I became one.  I joined 20 volunteers from around the world in a small seaside community just outside of Cape Town, South Africa. We worked on projects that helped women and children.”

AFSNext offers travel experiences for adults in over 25 countries around the world. If you’re ready for your adventure abroad, give us a shout. We’ll provide you with personalized, expert guidance and help find a program that’s right for you. In addition, our returnees will be happy to chat with you about their adventures.

As Jill wrote, “In my experience, you are never too old to be an AFSer and never too old to experience first-hand what we teach students about the benefits of exchange.”

See you around the world!
