“Loved it!” This is what we commonly hear when asked about the AFS Summits. These gatherings are amazing opportunities for volunteers across AFS-USA to come together to learn, share, engage, celebrate, and be inspired.
This year’s AFS Summit will be held virtually via Zoom, which means this experience is available to all AFS-USA volunteers. You have the opportunity to attend all or some of the sessions depending on your interest and time. And for those sessions you are not able to attend “live”, you will have the ability to access and view on your own time, as all sessions will be recorded.
Overview of the Summit Agenda
The Summit will begin on Thursday evening November 12th with a special opening address by AFS-USA’s President Tara Hofmann. This session will be open not only to AFS-USA Volunteers but also to AFS Returnees and their families and to current and former host families. Tara will be sharing information on how AFS-USA is doing during these times and on the important work ahead of us. Check your email for a link to register for this special session!
Up next, on Friday November 13th, the Volunteer Recognition Committee will be presenting the AFS USA 2020 awards. This presentation will include recognition of the award nominees and then the award recipients will be announced. This is a fabulous opportunity for us to gather, learn more about these incredible volunteers, celebrate their nominations and cheer the award recipients!
Saturday, November 14th and Sunday, November 15th will be focused on a variety of different topics. You can attend the session of your choice and have the opportunity to learn and dialogue with other volunteers. Some of the topics that will be covered are: School Outreach, Volunteer Recruitment, Virtual Programming Opportunities, Participant Support, Local Fundraising, Volunteer Integration & Engagement, and National Volunteer Leadership Opportunities.
If you haven’t already, we encourage you to sign up (Register here) to attend this year’s Volunteer Summit and join AFS-USA Volunteers across the U.S. to RISE. Information about accessing the sessions via Zoom will be emailed to all Summit participants by the end of this week.
“Together, we seek to RISE above the challenges of 2020 and endeavor to rebuild by focusing on local communities and developing team initiatives – to Recruit, Integrate, Sustain, and Evaluate – building a stronger volunteer base and more empowered teams”.
