We recently wrapped up our final domestic program of the summer – The Table We Share: Food and Culture in Chicago!
Over this past week, participants explored one of our country’s most exciting cities, where they soaked in some of the many cultures that make up Chicago’s unique landscape. Some highlights included:
- Visiting Polish, Indian, Filipino, Mexican, and Chinese communities, as well as learning about Black history and culture, throughout the city
- Connecting with locals through museum visits, neighborhood tours, and restaurant experiences
- Partaking in activities such as a dumpling workshop, yoga, and tea tastings
- Exploring downtown Chicago through a boat tour and a visit to the Skydeck at the Willis Tower
By sharing a table with one another and learning from locals (including our AFS Greater Chicago volunteers and host families) across neighborhoods, participants had the opportunity to examine how urban communities preserve and perpetuate their traditions through education, and of course, food!
Thanks for following our domestic programs across the U.S. this summer – we look forward to announcing our next series of domestic programming soon!
