We are gearing up for the NSLI-Y and YES Abroad NH22 candidate interview season, which will take place this December through February! This is an exciting opportunity to conduct virtual candidate interviews for NSLI-Y and YES Abroad, AFS-implemented scholarship programs of the U.S. Department of State. Every year, your hard work and dedication ensure the completion of over one thousand American candidate interviews nationwide. This is a huge accomplishment, and we would not be able to do it without the dedication of our incredible staff, volunteers, and program alumni!

Training Webinars
All volunteer interviewers must attend an interview season training webinar before engaging with candidates. While we encourage you to join us live, all webinars will be recorded and will be available to watch as an on-demand recording on the NSLI-Y/YES Abroad Interviews MyAFS Help and Learning page.
While all interviewers must attend a training, we are offering an abbreviated training for experienced interviewers.
We are happy to offer a new interview season diversity and inclusion training and look forward to seeing many of you there!

- Full Training Webinar: December 2, Noon -1:30pm Eastern
If you’re new to conducting NSLI-Y/YES Abroad interviews, have only conducted a few in past years, or are experienced but would like a full refresher, please join us for this full training webinar, which includes interactive components and time for Q&A!
- Condensed Training Webinar for Experienced Interviewers: December 2, 3:00 – 3:30pm Eastern
We offering a condensed webinar for volunteers who are experienced interviewers. This training will focus on changes to this interview season, as well as Q&A with program staff. Note: While we’re happy to offer this shortened webinar to our most experienced NSLI-Y/YES Abroad interviewers, we do generally recommend that even experienced volunteers join for the full training webinar.
- Interview Season Diversity and Inclusion Training: December 9, 6:00 – 7:00pm Eastern
This training, led by Rickkay L.T. King, President, and CEO of Now Boarding Corp, will be a live discussion surrounding best practices to help us recognize our own implicit biases. This presentation will highlight historical practices that have often denied access to underprivileged populations while exploring new ways volunteers can improve the interview process. Participant engagement is encouraged, and time will be set aside for Q&A.
