We are gearing up for the NSLI-Y and YES Abroad NH23 candidate interview season, which will take place this December through February! This is an exciting opportunity to conduct in-person and virtual candidate interviews for NSLI-Y and YES Abroad, two programs of the U.S. Department of State implemented by AFS. Every year, your hard work and dedication ensure the completion of over one thousand American candidate interviews nationwide. This is a huge accomplishment, and we would not be able to do it without the dedication of our incredible staff, volunteers, and program alumni!

Training Webinars
All volunteer interviewers must attend a training webinar before engaging with candidates. While we encourage you to join us live, all webinars will be recorded and will be available to watch as an on-demand recordings. Once published, those will be available on the NSLI-Y/YES Abroad Interviews MyAFS Help and Learning page.
While all interviewers must attend a training, we are offering an abbreviated training for experienced interviewers.

- Full Training Webinar: November 17, 3:30-5:00pm Eastern
If you’re new to conducting NSLI-Y/YES Abroad interviews, have only conducted a few in past years, or are experienced but would like a full refresher, please join us for this full training webinar, which includes interactive components and time for Q&A!
- Condensed Training Webinar for Experienced Interviewers: November 16, 3:00 – 3:30pm Eastern
We are offering a condensed webinar for volunteers who are experienced interviewers. This training will focus on changes to this interview season, as well as Q&A with program staff.
Note: While we’re happy to offer this shortened webinar to our most experienced NSLI-Y/YES Abroad interviewers, we do generally recommend that even experienced volunteers join for the full training webinar.
- Live Volunteer Training Workshops
If you’re new to NSLI-Y/YES Abroad interviews and would like more help with the interview form and conducting interviews, please keep an eye out for further updates about two new optional workshops that will be offered in the coming weeks on November 30 and December 8 from 6-7:30 PM ET. During the workshops, we will review proper interview form completion, go over do’s and don’ts for interviewing and have time for questions and mock interviews! Both sessions will review the same content, so please choose one and save the date. Stay tuned for an update about the workshops and Zoom information!
