While the next cohorts of FLEX and YES students are scheduled to arrive to the U.S. in January 2021, AFS-USA will be facilitating virtual programming for the SH21 FLEX and YES students in fall of 2020 (from October to December). The virtual programming will include:
- Engagement with an American host family for at least three (3) hours a month
- Participation in enhancement and cultural activities for approximately two (2) hours a month
- Interaction with an American peer at least once a month
Virtual programming will introduce participants to American culture and values and provide participants with ample conversational English practice so they will be better prepared to take full advantage of a shortened in-person program. It is our hope that this programming will also develop a sense of community among the participants and build their confidence about the coming semester exchange.
We would like to invite you to participate in the planning and implementation of virtual programming for FLEX and YES students. The Sponsored Programs team is actively looking for host families, U.S. teenage peers, and experienced volunteers to participate in this virtual programming. Please review the descriptions at the links below to learn more about each of these ways to become involved, and share these requests with experienced volunteers, AFS/ECA program returnees and young volunteers, and vetted host families within your local AFS network. We advise that you speak with your local team to discuss who may be interested in getting involved.
Interested parties should complete the corresponding survey(s) at the links below by Sunday, October 4, 2020. The Sponsored Programs team will connect with those who completed the surveys following this deadline.
